Things people don't expect about moving to Mexico
Trying to get the Temporary Resident visa after you've already arrived as a tourist
The economic-solvency Temporary (or Permanent) Resident visa is applied for AT A MEXICAN CONSULATE IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY BEFORE you travel. INM offices inside Mexico mostly only process the 'canje' (exchanging an already-approved consular visa for the physical resident card), not a conversion from tourist status.
Assuming you can buy coastal or border property outright
Article 27 of the Mexican Constitution bars foreigners from directly owning land within 50km of any coastline or 100km of an international border - covers almost every popular beach town. The legal workaround is a fideicomiso (bank trust) or buying via a Mexican corporation.
Missing the 30-day canje window after entering Mexico
The visa sticker is not your residency - you have 30 calendar days to exchange it (canje) for your physical resident card. Miss the window and you can lose the status and have to restart the consular process.
